I am now ten weeks old. Amazing to think I’ve been in this world that long already. While my first couple of months of life were very smooth, the last couple of weeks have been a little rocky. While I sailed through my shots like a champ according to Mom, I’ve gotten really fussy feeding. I went from being a fabulous eater to being more difficult. Every time I burp or have the hiccups, I don’t feel well after and the last thing I want is my bottle. I’ve cut down on how much eat because this really bothers me. Mom called the doctor the other day because she didn’t like seeing me so distressed. She tried everything from changing the nipple on my bottle, adjusting my feeding position and starting me on a new formula which I needed to change to anyway. None of that seemed to make me feel better so she phone my doctor who confirmed her suspicions – I have baby acid reflux! The doctor prescribed an infant dosage of zantac so hopefully that will do the trick. Little did she know, acid reflux is extremely common in infants and in about 85% of all cases after finding the right dosage, zantac does the trick. Zantac doesn’t taste very good – kind of a vanilla, minty taste but luckily our pharmacy has flavoring for kid’s medicines so now the icky vanilla mint, tastes like grape so I don’t mind taking it at all. The doctor says it takes about a week to take effect so Mom won’t know if this works until the middle of next week. If it doesn’t we will need to adjust the dosage.
I also spent four days at my Grandma Bobbie’s house while Mom was under the weather. I kind of showed my true colors and demonstrated my hearty lungs and my feeding fussiness. I know I was kind of a handful but I really loved spending time with her and Grandpa. I promised her that as I get older, I will be more fun!
