It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the all the new ‘fees’ airlines are charging but I have to say I love the advertising on Southwest Airlines website.  They are emphasizing that ‘bags fly free’, ALL bags.  I think that is great!  If they can avoid charging passengers special fees, why can’t everyone else????

I think the airlines really need to revisit their approach to charging especially for heavy bags.  On our recent trip to North Carolina, Darren and I packed in one suitcase.  As a result we were over the ‘weight’ limit by about 10 pounds.  However, between the two of us we only checked one bag therefore requiring less space and ultimately less weight as we didn’t have a second suitcase.  Airlines should take that fact into account before charging.  I felt a little cheated when we had to pay the extra $29.
