Over the last couple of weeks my friends have been fabulous about giving me books to read about my pregnancy, what to expect, and even a couple for Darren. There are so many books out there to read that you can really make yourself crazy deciding which to read. So many are very technical and dry but I think my friends have done a great job of weeding out the good ones and passing them along.
Their recommendation list has included:
- Your Pregnancy Week by Week by Dr. Glade B. Curtis. I really like this one because it tracks what is happening with baby and you each week and gives you lots of insight about what is changing and how you may be feeling. I find this book to be real and identifiable.
- Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy by Vicki Iovine. Everyone is raving about this book as it is humorous and real. I am taking this one to Aruba in a couple of weeks and will enjoy reading it on the beach. I hear it is very fun and tells you things the ‘text book’ books don’t.
- Callie’s Tally: An Accounting of Baby’s First Year (or what my Daughter Owes Me) by Betsy Howie. A cute and funny story about just how much it costs to have a baby. A very honest look at things too.
And a very cute (and short) one for Darren:
- My Boys Can Swim: The Official Guys Guide to Pregnancy. A novelty book that some may say trivializes pregnancy but I think its a cute and entertaining book for men who don’t want to sit around and read all these technical dry ‘what to expect books’. Darren is excited to take this one to read on the plane – fast and easy read.
One other book I’d recommend if you are thinking about getting pregnant is to read Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. Very informative and will teach you a lot about your body.
