Last night my brother, sister-in-law and I attended a special advanced screening of the new U2 3D movie that hits theaters on February 15th. Through Darren’s connections at work we were lucky enough to nab a few tickets and attend the show as guests of National Geographic who produced the show. Unfortunately for Darren, he was stuck at the office and never ended up making it to the theater. No surprise to us, the show was amazing. After premiering to rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival a couple of weeks ago, I can understand why it was the most sought after ticket of the festival. This live concert/documentary in 3D runs about 80 minutes and is an absolute must for all U2 fans. As the movie’s website says, this film truly puts viewers in the pulsing energy of a live U2 concert. The show was filmed in South America on the “Vertigo Tour” and is the first digital 3D, multi-camera, real-time production. Over 100 hours of footage were shot with the largest collection of 3D camera technology ever used on a single project. We all
thought the visuals were absolutely amazing – so great that at times you felt like Bono was standing right in front of you! The sound quality was also remarkable. Every major hit was performed to a crowd the was rockin’ along with the band. We really felt we were there live experiencing the same euphoria that the rest of the crowd was experiencing. When the show opens in a couple of weeks I am sure theaters will be packed. It was so great that I will gladly see it again, this time with Darren so he can enjoy the experience as well.
