Darren was craving Mexican food all day yesterday so last night we decided to give Casa Maya Mexican Grill on Central Avenue in Scarsdale a try.  We have passed this restaurant so many times and often pick up Chinese food from Pagoda which is in the same shopping center.  The parking lot is always packed so we figured, let’s give it a try.  What a mistake!  Casa Maya was by far the worst Mexican food either of us had ever eaten and probably the worst meal the two of us have ever had together.  While the menu had a nice selection of dishes to choose from and the pricing was very moderate, the food was horrible.  From the chips and salsa placed on the table when we arrived, to the guacamole and our main dishes, there was zero taste.  And I mean zero!  The guacamole was not fresh and it definitely came right from the refrigerator because it was ice cold.  For dinner I ordered the Enchilladas Verde and they were so bland and blah as was the rice that came with it.  Darren had a chicken dish with a calamari sauce which wasn’t even hot although the plate was.  He too said his meal was completely tastless and absolutely horrible.  We thought there might be an opportunity for the restaurant to redeem itself with dessert so Darren ordered the fried ice cream.  Unfortunately, another dud.  To top off this bad meal, the service was lacking too.  The waiters mumble and you can barely understand what they are saying.  We couldn’t wait to get the check and get out of there.  We have no idea how they stay in business.  In all honesty, I could have had a better mexican meal by picking up something from the Taco Bell drive-thru….that’s how bad this meal was.  And the final kicker to this awful dining experience was that Darren was sick to his stomach only moments after we arrived home.  A memorable evening, but for all the wrong reasons.
