While Sherri was busy scraping off the ice on our car this morning (so I hear), I was at a conference in Zurich, Switzerland. I had a bit of downtime today so I decided to walk around the Bahnhofstrasse, or the long road that leads from Lake Zurich to the CityRail (trainstation). It’s the equivalent of 5th Avenue of NYC (shops galore).
I had a fantastic lunch with a colleague I had met last night at my speech at a vegetarian place called Hilt. Apparently, this is the best vegetarian restaurant in Zurich and the demand certainly showed it. It was packed. What I love about Zurich (amongst many things) is that the waitresses take your order via a PDA device which goes directly to the kitchen. You generally get your food fairly quick due to the streamlining of the menial human process.
The restaurant was modern and sleek in design. The waiters and waitresses had semi-trendy outfits and the decor was “lofty.” The kitchen was in the basement of the 2 floor restaurant, but you could see into it via the all-glass enclosure.
One thing I noticed while in the restaurant and while walking around downtown was that men know how to dress in Zurich. For the most part, the average 20-50 year old man, in my opinion, dresses better than in most other cities (including NY). Maybe it’s because I favor a more formal dresscode, but it seems as if the clothing is meticulously ironed, paired well with colors, and high-end. Women on the other hand don’t dress as well as what we have back home – and they all wear one particular outfit: tight trendy jeans with semi-high boots. I’m not saying I don’t like that (I do!) but have some variety!
… time to catch up on sleep
