Early Saturday morning we rolled into Vegas, ecstatic to be back in the city where we had our first ‘dates’. We pulled up to THEhotel at 8:30am, ready for a weekend of fun. To our surprise they had our suite ready for us so we thought this was a great start to the weekend. We had a great room on the 17th floor overlooking the strip. After unpacking we immediately headed to the Bayside Buffet. We were talking about it the entire car ride! After stuffing ourselves with waffles, eggs, breakfast egg rolls, potatoes, chocolate croissants and a bunch of other delicous items, we hit the pool.
THEhotel is on the grounds of Mandalay Bay so as a guest you have all the amenities of staying on their property. The pool area has expanded since our last visit in March. There are many more lounge chairs, the Beach Bar & Grill has been expanded as well as their menu and hours. There is also now a take out section. New cabanas with daybeds have been added and an outside casino has been built. Moorea, the european beach club, has now moved to the top floor of the outdoor structure that is home to the bar & grill as well as the casino. I’ve been coming to Vegas for years and have stayed here many times, and these improvements are just what the resort needed to compete. The rooms in Mandalay Bay have also been updated so next time we may consider staying there if THEhotel is booked.
We spent the day at the pool on Saturday, soaking up the sun and deepening our tans. We rode the lazy river and the waves in the wave pool before showering up and heading over to The Palms for dinner and blackjack. We didn’t have much luck at the tables unfortunately and then headed over to N9NE Steakhouse for our reservations. We’ve both eaten there before (separately) and had good experiences so we thought we’d go back together. We started with drinks and then a seafood appetizer for two. I had the surf and turf combo, filet mignon and lobster and Darren had lamb chops. I thought everything was delicious but Darren was very disappointed. His lamb was very salty and completed soured his thoughts on the restaurant. The highlight of the night though, was the fact that Adrien Grenier and his own Entourage of friends was seated right next to us. The MTV VMA awards were being held at The Palms so celebraties were all over Vegas.
Sunday we hit the pool again, walked the strip, visited some art galleries, stopped at the Baccarat Bar in the Bellagio where we had our first drinks together and then headed over to Cesaers Palace for dinner at Sushi Roku. We were craving sushi all week so we figured Vegas would be the best place to find it on our two week out west adventure. The atmosphere was trendy and modern and surprisingly the sushi was fresh and delicous. It exceeded both of our expectations. We started with edamame and spring rolls and then we each had the assorted sushi combination. The portions were generous and very tasty. For Vegas, the pricing wasn’t outrageously expensive. We both recommend it.
It is now Monday morning and we are packing up and ready for the 8 hour drive ahead of us. We will be back in the wilderness of Yosemite for a few days before heading to Carmel and then San Francisco to celebate Brian and Melissa’s wedding. We have an exciting week ahead of us and are excited to hit the road. We will post again when we have connectivity…… We miss everyone!!!!
