Hello from Scottsdale, Arizona. Yesterday, Darren and I arrived in Phoenix after a smooth flight and an early arrival. We zipped through the airport, picked up our rental car (Jeep Commander) and headed for our first stop on our honeymoon adventure – The Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa. The resort is about a 35 minute drive from the airport through the desert, surrounded by cactus, ocotillo and prickly pears. Before long we pulled up to the secluded resort, nestled amidst dramatic rock formation and beautiful grounds. We were completely awestruck as we drove up to the main lobby. We checked-in, grabbed a nice lunch at Palo Verde in the main lodge and then explored the grounds while waiting for our room to be ready. The temperature was 110+ degrees and despite the low humidity, it is HOT….ridiculously HOT! We checked out the golf pro shop, the range and then the Golden Door Spa where we spent the rest of the day. Darren hit the gym while I opted for a Lomi Lomi massage at the spa. We spent a relaxing evening dining at Latilla, an elegant restaurant in the main lodge overlooking the waterfall in the Boulders.
Today we had a bright and early start….after a quick breakfast at the cafe, I headed back to the spa for a morning relaxation package while Darren hit the links. I treated myself to the Golden Door Spa Massage, Avocado Citrus Scrub and Golden Harvest facial. I highly recommend this package – especially the scrub which left my skin unbelievably silky and smooth. The facial was the best facial I have ever had and the products used were the perfect type for my sensitive skin. After pampering ourselves, we had a healthy lunch at the spa cafe and then headed over to the shops at El Pedregal to escape the hot afternoon sun. On our way back we jumped in the pool for a bit to cool off and then headed back to our casita to relax before indulging this evening in a traditional mexican dinner at the Spotted Donkey Cantina.
Tomorrow the real outdoor adventure begins with a stop in Sedona and then making our way to the Canyons. We will post pictures as soon as we have internet connectivity again.
