While at the nail salon today getting a much needed manicure and pedicure, I was flipping through a magazine and came across an article about why having girlfriends is so important.  The writer of the article said it best…..

“Many women will tell you that they need female friends for all the things their husbands either can’t or don’t want to do — engage in marathon chat fests, commiserate over petty injustices, work through the knotty problem of whether to buy that canvas tote or the faux crocodile clutch. We can wonder whether it’s nature or nurture, but women feel the need to examine their lives under a microscope more than men do. It’s not that men don’t want to share our lives — they just aren’t riveted by the same degree of detail that we are. “

This article couldn’t be more dead on.  Tonight, me and two of my closest girlfriends got together for dinner and exactly as the article described, we engaged in a marathon chat fest for two hours, catching up on each other’s lives, talking about work, our social life, men, and other countless topics that kept our chatter going non-stop.  After dinner, I had time before meeting Darren for the train, so what do two women with time on their hands do – they go shopping.  There is nothing like shopping with your girlfriends – they will tell you if you look like a pregnant cow in something or that something makes your butt look big or they will talk you into that incredibly expensive, gotta have it, dress or bag that you are drooling over.  Its a bonding experience women share and only women can truly understand.   Your girlfriends will also attentively listen to every detail of every story you tell and will also dig for more information.  Just ask anyone who may have been eavesdropping on our conversations.  

I feel very lucky to have an incredible group of girlfriends who are genuinely happy for each other, want the best for each other, support each other and give each other a swift kick in the butt when its needed.  To all my girlfriends, having you to enjoy this special time in my life means more to me than you know.  I love you guys!!!!
