Earning the Title “TurboBride”

Last night while eating a yummy piece of chocolate cake at EJ’s, I earned the nickname ‘Turbobride’. Throughout the day, I have received a lot of comments confirming the appropriateness of my new found ‘name’. I never really thought about it but I guess everyone is right. From the moment we got engaged, it seems the wedding planning just took off…even while we were celebrating our engagement in a foreign land!

Anyone who has gotten engaged knows that immediately following the phone calls to spread the news, the questions start coming…and boy do the come fast! Did you set a date yet? Where are you getting married? What kind of wedding are you going to have? Big? Small? And all the other endless questions that inquiring minds want to know. Darren and I barely had a minute to catch our breath and from the moment we landed back in NY, I went into planning mode…hence, earning me the honor of ‘TurboBride?.

In the past six weeks a lot has been accomplished: we set a date, decided on a place (Hilton Pearl River), selected our band, picked a photographer/videographer, chose our ‘save the date cards’ and invitations, registered, and I even found my wedding dress. As daunting a task as I thought that would be, surprisingly it was one of the easiest things I‘ve done so far. I had four stunning dresses to choose from but luckily, I had the help of my future mother-in-law, Bobbie, and her sister Judy, as well as my maid of honor, Shari, and I made a selection in less than three hours. Mom was in Florida visiting Grandma, so unfortunately she missed the day. But, not to worry, we took lots of pictures so she could see my final selection J Those pictures are now under lock and key and aside from a very few select people who have been sworn to secrecy, my dress is going to be a surprise to all until the ‘big day’.

This weekend I am taking my nieces to get their dresses…my youngest niece is going to be our flower girl. She is taking her role very seriously, asking questions about what should she do if she makes it to the end of the aisle and there are still flowers left in the basket? or what should she do if she runs out of flowers….so cute! She is even getting coaching tips from her sister (the ‘older’ and ‘wiser’ jr. bridesmaid) on the pace she should walk down the aisle. I am also helping my mom pick out her dress and then it is on to the bridesmaids. I think by Sunday night, I will be shopped out! Good thing tonight we are celebrating Shari’s birthday tonight – because some dirty martini’s will definitely be in order in preparation for this weekend-long shopping expedition. I’ll keep you updated on our progress… Wish us luck!
